Music of the Day: 30 August–5 September 2026
As August becomes September and a new academic year begins, there’s another wonderfully varied week ahead on Music of the Day.
This week moves from nineteenth-century British composer Kate Loder and composer, pianist and influential musical figure Alma Mahler, through Baroque Germany, twentieth-century Greece and France, Norwegian Romanticism – and finishes with one of the most recognisable voices in popular music.
🎼 30 August – Kate Loder
🎼 31 August – Alma Mahler
🎼 1 September – Johann Pachelbel
🎼 2 September – Mikis Theodorakis
🎼 3 September – Albéric Magnard
🎼 4 September – Edvard Grieg
🎼 5 September – Freddie Mercury
As ever, each day has a piece of music to discover alongside a short introduction to the musician.

A few changes behind the scenes
I’ve also been doing some work on MusicOfTheDay.co.uk over the past few weeks.
The shop has had a refresh, making the growing range of monthly composer resources much easier to browse and find.
I’ve also been returning to some of the individual days that have changed since the original 366-day project was put together. Those pages and their accompanying graphics are gradually being updated so the website, resources and social posts all remain consistent.
There’s plenty more work still happening behind the scenes as I prepare the next stage of Music of the Day – but the daily discoveries continue as usual.
Which name from this week would you listen to first?
