Raimo Kangro was an Estonian composer known for his exciting and energetic music, often using fast rhythms and a mix of styles, including rock, folk, and classical music. He was born in Tartu, Estonia, and studied music in Tallinn. Initially a pianist, he later became a composer. His music was lively and often playful. He wrote many types of music, including pieces for orchestras and various instruments. One of his favourite forms was the concerto, allowing one instrument to shine with an orchestra. He composed concertos for violin, flute, piano, and percussion. Kangro also wrote four symphonies, each with a unique style.
He loved storytelling through music, creating operas where all words are sung. Some operas were based on fairy tales, while others addressed real-life issues. His opera The Victim depicted life in a strict society, while The Heart playfully explored life in Estonia. Kangro collaborated with his family, creating music that was fun for young listeners. He was an influential figure in Estonian music, winning many awards and inspiring future musicians.
