Tage Nielsen was a notable Danish composer, born in Copenhagen on January 16, 1929. He studied music and French at the University of Copenhagen, earning his Master’s degree in 1955. In 1951, he began working at Radio Denmark, where he held various positions, including program secretary and deputy head.
In 1963, he became the director of the Jutland Academy of Music in Århus, teaching music theory and history. From 1983 to 1989, he directed the Accademia di Danimarca in Rome. Nielsen was also managing director of the Society for the Publication of Danish Music from 1989 to 1993, and he received the Schierbeck Prize in 1992.
His music evolved through several styles, including neo-Classicism, expressionism, and neo-Romanticism. Some of his notable works include the opera “Laughter in the Dark” and various orchestral, chamber, and vocal compositions. Nielsen’s contributions significantly impacted Danish music, showcasing the importance of music education and cultural expression in society.
