Claudio Casciolini was an Italian composer born in Rome on 9 November 1697. He was the son of Agostino and Veronica Finocchiola. From April 1726 until his death in January 1760, Casciolini worked as a bass singer at the church of San Lorenzo in Damaso. It is believed that he also held the position of maestro di cappella at the same church. On 14 January 1724, he married Maria Teresa Mazza, and together they had numerous children. Unfortunately, Casciolini lived in poverty in a small house near the Piazza della Chiesa Nuova.
His music primarily consisted of church compositions. While he lived during the late baroque period, he exclusively composed in the stile antico tradition. This style is characterised by a cappella counterpoint that echoes the works of Palestrina. Some of his notable compositions include a three-part Missa pro defunctis and a Missa brevissima. He also wrote various other works for multiple voices, showcasing his talent and dedication to sacred music.
