Franz Liszt, born on 22 October 1811 in Hungary, was a renowned composer and pianist of the Romantic period. He began playing piano at a young age and quickly gained fame for his remarkable talent. By the 1830s, he was captivating audiences across Europe, earning the nickname “Lisztomania” for the obsession fans had with him. He not only composed a vast array of music but was also a dedicated teacher who influenced many future musicians.
Liszt was friends with other prominent composers, including Wagner and Chopin, and he supported their work. He innovated piano techniques and created original pieces like the Hungarian Rhapsodies. His contributions to music also included developing the concept of the symphonic poem and popularising various musical ideas through his arrangements. Liszt’s legacy is immense, as he paved the way for modern classical music and continues to inspire musicians today. He passed away on 31 July 1886, leaving behind a rich musical heritage.
